yes & i believe its a solid, all-weather net. Lifetime has a great warranty on this.

We used water, about 2/3 of the capacity full, and it works just fine.

We filled ours (a different brand) with water, & a wind knocked it down on our car! It has fallen numerous times, badly bending the rim, in spite of having an extra large base with water.

Our insurance adjuster said he sees this, & that the best thing is to fill it 2/3 with water (so it's not too heavy for people to lay it down in high winds), then weight it further with cement blocks. These are cheap, & I'd say six of them...and DON'T hang off the rim, unless you have someone heavier than you standing on the base as well!

I haven't tried the water, but the sand has been great for sturdiness!

We used water. Tilt the base upwards to fill, as it says in the instructions.

The book says either, and we were forced to use water because the sand was wet inside the bags. The unit is solid & water doesn't allow any shifting or bouncing or tipping of any kind. My concern though is the freezing temps we'll be getting for the next 3 months. I'll report back.

I would use sand. The water could freeze and burst the base or it could leak out if developed a hole in the base. Make sure you use fine sand and not heavier sand or you will have difficulty in getting it to flow into the base. Also make sure the sand is dry so it doesn't clump. Use a funnel with a large opening (> 1 inch diameter that will still fit into the hoe). I also used a long slender stick to help move the sand around in the base so it would fill easier. My wife and I did this with no problem. We tilted the unit down and let it rest on a saw horse while we poured the sand.

should water or sand be used to weight the base

I just purchased this unit today and had the same question. I search the internet to make sure of the specifications and description. Most sites indicated it can be adjusted in heights between 7.5' -10'

Yes, it adjusts from 7.5 to 10 ft. The adjustment mechanism is very easy and smooth to use, even for a child who can reach it.

If at all possible, I would recommend picking this item up at the store.  The box was damaged in the last one we bought.  Hope everything is in there and not broken.  It is a Christmas gift.  We purchased this same model last year and it has held up well.  It looks just like new after a year of sitting outside.  Using the box lid for a work surface worked well.  Read and follow the directions carefully.  Many folks thought they were not well written, but we did ok.  Just have to think through what is to be done.  Did not choose to use sand or water for fill, got the small bag of material that absorbs water to fill the base.  It held up well through temps from 10-100 degrees.  Was able to roll the goal into the garage when hurricane winds were expected.  Great family gift.

High quality, reasonable price...

The package arrived safely and fast.  I'm glad I was able to get this on sale!  I paid Iassemble Anything to assemble it since I had great experience with them previously.  It came out really nicely and sturdy.  I end up filling it with water since I didn't have sand at the moment.  Also, it is easy to adjust the height of the rim.  Highly recommend.

Time to slam dunk!

This basketball goal has turned out to be fun for the whole family. The installation took about 4 hours because very close attention to details in pictures is required and there are steps that are not as clear as they should be. Overall, the installation was not too difficult for two people to complete. The overall value is excellent and I would buy this again. This has become a magnet for our sports-minded family.

Excellent buy - great family fun

Takes a little bit of time to put together. Definitely need two people for portions of it.  After assembly, it's easy to operate.  Moving it around will be an issue for children and small adults. If use is stationary then it will be fine. I roll it up and down the driveway and keep it on the side of the house when not in use. 
The lever mechanism is easy to use for adults and may be difficult for children under 13. The base is about 400lbs when full.

Great Basketball Hoop for the family.

This is a pain to put together, but the product is very sturdy and seems durable. The handle makes adjusting the height easy enough for my 13 year-old son to do it alone. The large base is certainly necessary to balance out the 10' height. Good buy.

Good, sturdy hoop.

We researched various systems under $300.  We ordered this one online it arrived as scheduled.  Two adults put it together in about three hours with no problems. It is a good size and sturdy enough for our family. My 15 year old uses it the most. The family also uses it together it is a good portable system for our driveway. We filled the base with water.
